How much rope do I need for my stove?

Our standard rope packs contain 2 meters (200cm) of rope.
For most single jobs (like replacing a glass seal or a standard door seal), one pack is usually sufficient. However, larger stoves or full renovations may require more.

Here is how to calculate exactly what you need.

1. Calculating for a Glass Seal
Usually requires 1 Pack.

To find the length needed for your glass:

1. Measure the Width and Height of your glass.

2. Add them together and multiply by 2 (to get the perimeter).

3. Add 10cm for overlap/waste.

• Example:

  • Glass is 40cm wide and 25cm high.

  • (40 + 25) x 2 = 130cm (1.3 meters).

  • Verdict: One 2m pack is plenty.

2. Calculating for a Door Seal
Usually requires 1 to 2 Packs.

To find the length needed for your door:

1. Run a tape measure around the groove/channel where the rope sits.

2. Add 10cm for overlap/waste.

• Typical sizes:

  • Small/Medium Stoves: 1.5m – 1.8m (1 Pack)

  • Large/Double Door Stoves: 2.2m – 3m (2 Packs)

Quick Buying Guide: How Many Packs?

Buy 1 PACK (2 Meters) if:
✓ You are sealing a single glass panel.
✓ You are sealing a standard single door (under 2m perimeter).

Buy 2 PACKS (4 Meters) if:
✓ You have a very large stove door.
✓ You have double doors.
✓ You are replacing both the glass seal AND the door seal (and they use the same thickness).
✓ You want to be safe (it is better to have leftover rope than to run short).

Buy 3+ PACKS if:
✓ You are doing a full renovation on a large stove (doors, glass, and flue seals).

Important Considerations

Different Sizes for Different Parts
Be careful—do not assume all seals on your stove are the same thickness.

• Door seals are often thick (e.g., 10mm or 12mm).

• Glass seals are often thin (e.g., 6mm or 8mm).

• You may need to buy 1 pack of 10mm and 1 pack of 6mm.

Why Buy Extra?
Rope is an inexpensive consumable part. If you buy 2 packs and only use 1.5, the leftover rope does not expire. You can store it in a drawer and use it for repairs next year. Running out of rope halfway through a job is much more frustrating than having 50cm left over!
